Framing day 16

Framing day 16. Yesterday it was raining so no work is done. Today’s Saturday and the framers are working today. They worked on getting the 3rd floor parapet wall framed. At the end of the day a lot of the parapet walls are completed. Once the third floor material is delivered on Monday, I imagine they will frame up the 3rd floor structure and together finish up the rest of the parapet walls.

Framing day 15

Framing day 15. Most of the 3rd floor / roof is now completed. There’s only a tiny corner left that is not completed. Once that’s done, the framing of the parapet and the third floor wall can begin. Tomorrow the weather forecast calls for snow and rain so most likely the framer won’t be working. So we are looking at to get these completed on Saturday or Monday.

Framing day 14

Framing day 14. Today the crew worked on sheathing the third subfloor. This is mostly my roof top, but I do have a small third floor that allow me an enclosed access to my root top terrace. Here is the where my third floor wall will be erected. You can see the stair opening.

Framing day 12

Day 12 of the framing. Another cold and short work day. Shaun has to go somewhere else in the afternoon so the work day is cut short. At the end of the day, the rest of the joists around the sky lights are almost all done. So a bit more work around the skylight area, then it’s around the stair opening of the the 3rd subfloor and all joists will be done. Then they can put the floor sheathing on.

Framing day 11. The work concentrates on the third subfloor. More than 50% of the third floor’s joists are hung. Tomorrow if weather permits, framer will continue to hung joists for the third floor.

Here’s a picture of the joists on the east side. This will be my master bedroom.

Steel beam fixed

Crew from AMX Steel showed up today and welded that unlevel beam. As I mentioned before, the framers were able to use a car jack and some wood stuck to jack up the steel beam, removed the bolts securing the beam and leveled it properly. So all the guy has to do today is to weld it in place.

Framing day 9

So today right on schedule most of the second floor wall has been finished. The front shade is also framed. However, AMX Steel is no show and so the steel beam is not yet welded in place. But at least it is not impacting the framing. Tomorrow is a raining day so no work will be done on site.

At the end of the day, this is what the north and east side wall looks like from the outside.

Framing day 8

Framing day 8. Today the crew worked on the second floor wall. They have finished the east wall and 2 panel of walls to the north and 1 panel of wall to the south. Tomorrow they will continue to work on the walls and the front shade. The west side wall will be the last to get done because that’s where they use their forklift to bring in the material.

This is the wall to the north that was finished. You can also see a part of my wall to the east that will contain a sliding door and a large window.

Framing day 7

Today is day 7 of framing. After that big snow storm, a lot of clean up has to be done before the work can begin. At least I already cleaned up inside the house. So the crew will only have to do some clean up outside of the house.. The framer worked on framing the balcony today. Here’s the finished product. you can see the extensive use of web fillers to stiffen the joists on every joist. The steel frame wasn’t that level on the balcony, but the framer addressed it and leveled the joists. The floor of the balcony is slanted 1″ back to front for drainage.

Framing day 6

Framing day 6. Tomorrow the weather forecast calls for 10-15cm of snow. So the framing crew worked long to finish up the second sub-floor so that the snow won’t be coming in to the unfinished house. Well the snow will still be blown in from the window and door opening but at least the top is mostly covered by the plywood now.
